Welcome Ljubljana City of Learning!

Welcome Ljubljana City of Learning!

Our city

Ljubljana is Slovenia’s capital and largest city with 292,988 inhabitants. It’s known for its university population and green spaces, including expansive Tivoli Park. The curving Ljubljanica River, lined in outdoor community spaces, divides the city’s old town from its commercial hub. It is the geographical, cultural, scientific, economic, political and administrative center of the country.

Our focus

The platform has a wide range of opportunities. At the moment it mainly provides a number of open youth activities in the city. Most of the activities are free of charge. The platform will continue to grow in different directions of youth work forms. Our wish is to offer young people rich and diverse opportunities to learn and work within the city, while encouraging solidarity, cooperation, kindness, clean new technology and concern for the environment. We want to foster an environment where young people can grow, live and give back to the community.

Our platform

The Ljubljana City of Learning platform offers opportunities for organisations to add digital and in-person activities, volunteering spaces, internships, workshops, courses and other types of activities.

Young people can find activities like cooking lessons, social skills building, entrepreneurial activities, self-discovery, public discussions, career orientation programs and much more. Organisations can choose to combine activities into learning playlists combining a range of activities linked to one topic.

Young people earn open badges for attending each activity or playlist. They can collect their portfolio of achievements and share them in the places that matter.

Our potential

The platform can grow more in providing opportunities for young people to develop their career guidance, internships, learning to learn competences and other. It is also used to promote recognition of non formal and informal learning, while inviting diverse learning providers and creating cross field connections.

Our recommendations

  • Check with young people if a development that adults want also is what young people want and need
  • Involve people directly working in organizations
  • Be open to cross field collaboration and be aware learning opportunities can be very diverse
  • Establish communication and support channels
  • Connect with aims of municipality
  • Make sure the organization has enough time and human resources devoted to the project
